Anna Lee

Delighting her listeners with "her warm, humane musicianship" and "sparkling virtuosity", Anna Lee is an active concert violinist and chamber musician.

She began violin studies at the age of four with Alexander Souptel and debuted a year and a half later as a soloist performing the Paganini Violin Concerto No. 1 with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Lan Shui.

Notable collaborations include Christoph Eschenbach, Mitsuko Uchida, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Sol Gabetta, Emmanuel Ax, Gary Hoffman, and David Danzmayr. Top prizewinner of the 2022 Ysaÿe, 2022 Classic Strings Dubai, 2019 Montréal, and 2018 Indianapolis Competitions, Anna Lee has also been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Horatio Parker Memorial, Louis Sudler, and the Hahnloser Prizes. She has performed in music festivals around the world, such as the Verbier Festival, Marlboro Music Festival, and the Seoul Spring Festival, as well as on radio shows such as NPR Performance Today with host Fred Child.

As soloist, Anna Lee made her New York Philharmonic debut in April 2011 and her German debut in 2016 with maestro Christoph Eschenbach and the Frankfurt Radio Orchestra. Passionate about bringing together historical traditions with contemporary art and music, Anna Lee has also premiered several works written for her in venues such as the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam and Paine Hall at Harvard University and has presented at ideas festivals, such as the EG Conference.

Anna Lee’s teachers were Masao Kawasaki and Cho-Liang Lin at the Juilliard School Pre-College Division, Ana Chumachenco at the Kronberg Academy, Miriam Fried and Don Weilerstein in Boston, where she completed her Comparative Literature degree at Harvard College, and Ani Kavafian at the Yale School of Music. She has also been invited as a teacher and chamber music coach to institutions like the Kronberg Academy’s Mit Musik—Miteinander festival, Classical Music Institute in San Antonio, and MusicAlp Festival in France. Currently, she is an Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium under the guidance of Augustin Dumay.
